Challenge: The existing conveyor system, originally supplied by DSI in partnership with EleVeyor, had been in reliable service for over 25 years. Customer wanted to replace the existing conveyor system with new, duplicate units, to extend the service life. Some of the components of the system were custom components that were difficult to procure.
Solution: Replaced with new system in-kind, with some part upgrades, preserving the original, proven design.
Dos Santos International (DSI) founder Joseph Dos Santos, together with EleVeyor Corp. owner Werner Plaut, executed a project to supply the original twin EleYeyor conveyors to DC water for the Blue Plains Advanced Waste Water Treatment Plant. The system consisted of the two identical units, each handling sludge at a rate of 15 STPH on 24-inch-wide belts, elevating material approximately 16 feet to discharge into outgoing trucks.
In 2021, DSI was approached by a project manager at the plant indicating that DC water was considering replacing the conveyors in-kind. DC water emphasized that they had not had any issues with the system and were satisfied with the original design. As part of the replacement, DC Water requested:
- Stainless steel framing for improved corrosion resistance
- Hazardous environment rating (Class I, Division 2) for all components
Because the original conveyors used many custom-built parts manufactured in-house by Eleveyor Corp., which had closed following Werner Plaut’s passing, DSI faced the challenge of sourcing these unique components. Through extensive supplier outreach, DSI successfully secured vendors for all custom equipment.
The project was completed successfully, and DSI’s newly established vendor network will now streamline the supply of spare parts for future projects.
